Vocational Spotlight: Debra Rollins
Debra Rollins is a Macon Rotary member from Rebuilding Macon, Inc., a local, non-profit organization providing home repairs to low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners.
In 1979, Debra graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and went on to complete a master’s degree at Georgia College with the same focus. In 1993, she also gained a degree from Dunkin’ Donuts University. Debra became Executive Director of Rebuilding Macon in 1998 and oversees all aspects of the organization.
Rebuilding Macon incorporates multiple programs that are crucial to its mission of keeping Macon’s most vulnerable neighbors warm, safe, dry and independent. The most evolved program thus far, a Volunteer Youth Program which engages young adults in service projects that are challenging, rewarding, and educational. University of Connecticut students just spent their 5th year in a row volunteering with Rebuilding Macon and 4 more teams have signed up for projects this year.
What began as 300 volunteers, repairing 18 homes a year at a market value of $50,000 has become 3,000 volunteers, repairing approximately 230 homes a year at a market value of $1,200,000.
